Up to Speed Journalism (26/08/2009)
Journalists from 16 organisations recently trained by UK experts say they are confidently replicating the training to upgrade professionalism in their newsrooms.
The topics being treated vary but there has been a convergence on ethics following the suspension of the Yaoundé-based proximity station – Sky 1 Radio.
Examples
- Nicole Tao of New TV Yaoundé: “I’ve been training my colleagues for on ethical issues for the past two weeks. As a case study, we examined the events leading to the suspension of Sky 1 Radio and unanimously agreed that the station had been acting unethically through its programmes”.
- Francisca Dione Ekosso, Eden Radio – Limbe: “My colleagues have been so enthusiastic about the sessions I have had with them on news selection and the art of the interview”.
Projects
Other newly trained trainers have just designed their training projects which have been accepted by their organisations. CRTV promises to be particularly big on this given the trainers’ plans to replicate the course in all 10 regional stations of the network.
Sponsors Speak
The trainees have responded positively to the call by Second Secretary at the High Commission Giles Montagnon and Publisher Francis Wache, who asked them to become trailblazers of a much-needed professional journalism in Cameroon.
