Europe-Cameroon Friendship Day

BHC's Communication Manager explaining UK's activities in Cameroon

UK Attracts Popular Attention during Europe-Cameroon Friendship Days

The UK actively took part in the 6th Europe-Cameroon friendship days from 12 t0 13 November 2008 in Yaounde. The theme of the celebration was “Cameroon’s Energy Policy and Co-operation with Europe”.

At the opening ceremony held at the Yaounde Hilton on 12 November, the current President of the EU community in Cameroon – French Ambassador, Georges Serre, said there was an urgent need to seek long lasting solutions to the growing energy demand in Cameroon and that Europe was ready to help the country introduce environment-friendly sources of energy.

At a highly attractive exhibition held at the Yaounde City Hall on 13 November, the High Commission and the British Council shared a common space with posters, books and accessories that told the stories of their work in and with Cameroon, ranging from the promotion of human rights and efforts against climate change to the teaching of English and support for leadership/professional development.

Visitors at the exhibition were highly attracted to the UK stand – a reason why all public diplomacy materials on the UK and its mission to Cameroon on display were swept away.
