Funding for Projects

The UK supports a range of projects in Cameroon to promote democracy, human rights and low carbon economic growth. It does this work in partnership with the Cameroonian government, media and local and international NGOs.

The British High Commission through its ‘Challenge Fund’ supports innovative ideas with local ownership and high impact. The fund is also used to pilot or develop larger multi-year projects for funding from other sources.

The High Commission also works on a certain number of larger multi-year projects in the thematic areas of human rights and democracy and low-carbon high growth. These are funded by the FCO in London through the Strategic Programme Fund.

The UK is also one of the biggest donors to the European Development Fund (EDF). British assistance to Cameroon through the EDF will be worth in the region of £580,000 annually to 2011.
