High Commissioner Bharat Joshi has encouraged the Cameroon Chevening Alumni Association to impact on Cameroon's social transformation. During the Association's General Assembly held on at the British Council Yaoundé on 10 October 2009, Mr Joshi urged Chevening Alumni President Prof. George Elambo Nkeng and his colleagues to undertake grassroots projects that promote the Chevening values of peace, democracy and development.

Bharat Joshi  said , " I am genuinely amazed at the progress that the Chevening Association has made in such a short time. That's a reflection of the commitment of the membership. On behalf of the British Government, I stand ready to support the Association as it embarks on an exciting new phase to support the development of Cameroon and a closer relationship between our two countries. "

The Alumni Association says it is ready to make an impact on Cameroonian society in the 2009/2010 in the areas of climate change and poverty alleviation. It was the association's first general assembly since it celebrated 25 years of the existence of the Chevening programme.

Over a hundred Cameroonians have benefited from Chevening scholarships and fellowships that aim to improve the leadership abilities of career civil servants, entrepreneurs and civil society figures across the world to help bolster democratic practices and greater development of their countries.
